Did new S&S 106 jugs and pistons, changed out handlebars and installed 4 degree cam retard gear. Now the bike won't start. We've checked the handlebar wiring, sensors, switches, etc. We've disconnected things to see if the ecm responded with codes - it did.
We are getting no codes. Engine turns over, but no spark. We can smell the fuel so assume injectors are working.
With no codes and motor turning over, just not sure. Gotta think it was something we did during build. Bike ran fine before the changes. Just not sure where the problem is without any codes to point the way.
Any suggestions would be welcome, even basics. We might have missed something really simple but we haven't been able to find the problem after two weeks of checking and rechecking. HELP.
Well, that's the strange thing. THose have all been ruled out. Electrically, everything checks out and ECM is functional. Sensors are all good, battery strong, coil is good. Thinking it might be mechanical thats keeping a signal from reaching proper threshold and allowing ECM to go. Not getting any error codes. Still working it.
You said no spark. Then said everything checked out okay as far as coil. I'm guessing it ohms to spec. Did you pull a plug and test for a strong spark with a HEI test plug? You can pick one up for about 10$ at any auto parts store.
I'm sure you know a lot more than me if you rebuilt you motor but you only said everything was good ignition wise up to the coil.
Is it possible that the cam timming isn't right for your ecms tune. I could be wrong but doesn't the ECM use the crank sensor to fire the plug. If you drastically changed the cam timming With out making the proper change to the ECM timming that would be a problem. Like being out three teeth on a timming belt on a car
