What a Pain in the ***! My '97 FXDWG was showing signs of the liner coming loose, such as, "I could see it floating around in the damn tank!"
Read about the fix on-line and bought a great kit to repair/replace, but it's still a PAIN IN THE ***!!! What was Harley thinking when they put a liner/material in there that was going to eventually come loose?
Whoever invents a roller that can hold a tank and slowly rotate it in all directions (yaw, pitch and roll?), while figuring out how to ensure that the corrosive crap in the tank isn't going to drool out through whatever you have stuffed in the miscellaneous holes or eat up the proper hole-stuffers, should make a mint!
And don't touch the paint!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else do this themselves or am I the only idiot out there? - Yeah, yeah, I know.
My 2000 is doing the same thing. Im just going to flush it out and keep an eye on it. Heck my 1990 evo never had tank lin ng and it was fine. I hear all the fixes are not worth it as well.

I had one come off already. It was a Kreem kit I installed myself. Lasted about 12 years IIRC. Wasn't a huge deal. I just cleaned my fuel filter and petcock filter about once per year till I finally reached in there and yanked out what I could.
I did POR15 on my fxd when I found out my tank liner was coming out and the tank was rusting. Worst experience of my life. At once point I was certain that I messed up the paint because I got some of the chemicals on it. Lost one bolt that probably got stuck in the tank and coated with POR15. The end result came out nice but the process blew.
My GF got a new set of tins to do the "chrome fusion" process and had a problem with her gas tank. Had to coat it with Kreem, which started peeling within a year of install. It was a mess to get out, but then I used POR15 and the tank has held up for the last 4 years. Yeah, the process was was tedious, but the results have been very good.

I'm pretty sure that getting shot at was the worst experience of my life, but yeah, it blew bigtime.
