probably not a smart idea, but I always keep my spare key in one of my saddle bags. Has saved me a few times when I just hopped on and rode to town and didn't think to grab my key. have actually even let a buddy carry it with him on a day ride so he could use it to open the gas lid when he forgot his key.
I'm still use to bikes where the key is in the ignition. This little key fob thing is about to drive me crazy always looking for it, hoping I have it with me, etc.
I don't lock the ignition on my FXST or SG and rarely even carry a key. I think I have the key in one of my saddle bags on the SG but I couldn't tell you where the key is to the Softail.
Do you carry an extra set of car keys when you're in your cage? I figure it's just one more thing for me to missplace so I leave mine at home and hope to God I never need it 1000 miles from home.

Yes, I have always carried a spare cage & bike key in my wallet and it's saved my butt several times. I use a wallet that has 2 key holders in the billfold area. But then my bike and cage key are flat, not round.

Yes in a sense. My wife has a set for the cage and so do I.....
On trips I stash one away for both of our bikes. Wish they were keyed the same then we wouldn't need to carry 4 freakin keys while on trips. Just regular rides I do not carry spares though.
