Eh, I don't ride in shorts, but if there was something I could put on over my warm-ups I could ride my bike the whole 4 miles to the gym w/o melting them to the exhaust.

I occasionally run into some guys and gals who have similar experiences as yours. After I get down scrubbing out the resulting abrasions and burns and make them swear to get jeans, we don't see them again.
