Another Noob question. Love my new XL1200T. Here in Southern California it is sometimes nice to be able to ride wearing shorts. It is remarkably easy to burn one's right shin on the tailpipe on this bike; so much so that I do not ride except wearing blue jeans. Does anyone market some sort of shin protector designed to protect against this contact between one's shin and the bike?
Do you mean protecting your lower leg from touching the pipe? It's a self correcting problem. Do it once and you'll go back to wearing jeans.
Yes, I've done that. Got a very good burn last weekend. Hmmm my question does not seem to be well-received.
I am referring to the area on the inner shin above the ankle. Lower calf area. Got a real good little burn there. Nothing huge, but as Medic says, I don't want to do it again.

That's only because most people in their right minds don't wear shorts while riding a motorcycle. They'll wear short sleeve shirts, no gloves or helmets, but there seems to something taboo about riding in shorts. PLEASE don't tell us that you're also wearing flip flops when you ride!

Don't worry about it.
BTW... I got burned once on my exhaust... once.
