I've got a 2007 Road Glide -- same size front and rear tires as on the '05 E-Glide.
I really can't complain about the standard HD Dunlops as a lot of others do. I generally get good mileage and they handle ok for me, but I'm an easy-goin' rider.
Actually, I got GREAT mileage from my last Dunlop rear ("MU" series tire). In previous changes, I might get 11,000-12,000 from the rear tire. This last one gave me 18,400, and it wasn't even completely worn out. Amazin'!
I generally get 20,000 or so from the front one...
Stock Dunlops. Front tire has plenty of rubber left at 11k, rear tire was toast at 5700. Replaced with Michelin CII's. It has 5600 miles on it and should last another 1500-2000. The Dunlop did grip slightly better. I'm thinking about the Pirelli Night Dragons next to see how they feel and tire life.
I have the Avon on mine now....so far I am OK with them ...seem to handle pretty well....I will try the Pirelli Night Dragon's next...been hearing good things so far about them
The OEM type Dunlops run and wear just fine on my '04 Road King in wet or dry conditions and with sparks flying in the hard corners. If I was touring long distance, fully loaded two-up, I might be more critical in my choice of tires.
"UPDATE" I got the set of Michelin Commander II's drop shipped to my door for $300 and Installed locally for another $165 for a total of $465 and so far I am very Impressed! after a few miles have been put on them now "break in" if you will, they handle like a dream, they grip the road very well, cornering is awesome, very very smooth over transistions and such, and handle very well on the wet pavement also. now comes the true test of mileage. at this point I would recommend these to anyone exspecially with a bagger! Just my 2 cents
Good for you. Guess I'm a little late chiming in, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've had Commander II's on my Dyna for the last 7K mi and they still look new. I was originally concerned about how well they'd do in the rain, but I just last night got caught in a real frog-strangler on the way home. Everyone was doing 10 mph with flashers on, and I wanted to get home quick! I had to do some quick maneuvering to avoid trouble a couple of times, and the C II's never slipped or slid at all. I was very, very impressed, particularly wi 7K mi on the rubber. Hell, I may put these suckers on my dirt bike (if I can find the size)!
CII & Elite III are by far the best when you want handling and durability....Avon, Metzellers and Night Dragons ride good but don't last for ****....not tied the Metz 888 yet. After 84000 mikes I had to put. D402 on the bike and it really doesn't ride that bad compared to every thing else I have tried...I have a Avon Cobra on the front. I will be buying a American Elite next.
09 Ultra has 10k on Dunlop American Elites wearing very well my last set of Metzler 880s were cupping bad at 10k. Dunlop AEs seem to be a harder compound tire !!!

All the reviews and customer comments seem to be leading me to the Commander 2s as well. I am finding however that locating a set locally is quite a challenge. There are 4 dealerships around me and I can't seem get anything in stock but Dunlops. Even online, most places are back ordered on them. People must be in a tire frenzy before Sturgis. I'm sure as heck not riding to Sturgis on the slicks I have now! Someone have a good connection around the Kansas City Area, let me know.
