I prefer shopping on Ebay. I have found a lot of good deals and never been ripped off. Just bought a brand new set of bags for $100 off retail and free shipping. I do buy from the dealer for the harder to find items. But I agree that if you return to the dealer where you bought the bike there should be some kind of dicount, whether it be 20% or 10%.
Doing the right thing even when nobody is looking is a good example of integrity. I am only 43 but can remember my Dad doing the right thing even if it cost him to do it. He taught me that "integrity is the one thing YOU have the most say so in. Don't let anyone force you to compromise it, alter it or just plain forget it." He also said "there are people out there who have no integrity (not saying those who inquire about discounts don't have integrity)and will take advantage of yours. Be particular who you choose to run with as they will and can make you lose yours. Once lost, you can never get it back whole."
Some days I miss him more than others but the lessons he taught me will last my lifetime. Never a day goes by that something he said or taught me doesn't cross my mind.
BTW, He was a US Army MP &WWII Vet.
I would not have asked about a discount regardless of the profit margin. To me it is more about the principle and not the money.

Idid not mean for this to be a thread on morals and integrity, it is really no big deal, I was just a little irritated about it yesterday and I thought I would vent about it.I live in an area that employers are happy to fill job openings with uneducated warm bodies with absolutely no customer skills at all. So I am always somewhat selective about where I spend my money. I am sure that Shumate HD is a very reputable place to shop. I live 80 miles from them and did not purchase my bike there.
My business, on the other handhas a different philosophy. If a customer of mine was to save me$1300.00 I would bend over backwards to make sure they remained a happy customer.
I see where you are coming from. You do have integrity just by returning the parts. The dealer could have done something to show a little appreciation.

[sm=exactly.gif]Once they knew who you were, they should have offered to give you the mirrors, or at least 20% to 50% off for returning $1300.00 worth of parts to them.
Yea, I think a discount would be in order. It is simply not worth it to loose a valuable customer with integrity. It it were my business....I would have come up with an agreeable price on the mirrors.
Screw that dealer....apparently they do not appreciate you enough.

Yeah, I'm a Tri-Cities Local and I very rarely shop up there. I chose to travel 140 miles to buy my bike simply because of the feeling I got from the salespeople at Shumate. Couldn't get the time of day from them. Wenatchee was much more helpful and gave me an awesome deal. Plus my wife works at the other local shop, which has a way better atmosphere and can get nearly anything.
Jeff, you gotta remember you're dealing with people, and the guy you spoke to was probably an hourly paid employee, not the dealer owner. That guy probably didn't feel empowered enough to make a decision re discounts. I suspect if you spoke to the owners, or even the parts dept manager you might have gotten a different response. As for supporting your HD dealer where you bought your bike, I get a 10% discount off everything for buying my bike there. It's not much but it has made a difference when deciding where to buy several upgrades. Unless the item is ridiculously expensive, I prefer buying it from people who are helpful and friendly.
