I dunno, I get the feeling you're a bit paranoid. If a cop wanted to park in front of my house all day long I'd make the guy a sandwich.
By the way I've had my driver's license since for 37 years, driven in 34 countries of the world, logged thousands upon thousands of miles in cars and bikes and I can say with TWO exceptions, I have never been screwed with. One was a speed trap in Waldo, FL (Google that one) and another was from a crooked sheriff in South Texas. Other than that, unless you make yourself a target why would the cops have any reason to stop you?
Yup, watch out passing through Waldo, it's a two or three block crappy little town with a half dozen of the nicest Police cars you have ever seen. Just go a couple of miles over the suddenly posted 25 and you will see how they pay for those shiny revenue generators. Waldo is one of the last speed trap towns listed in AAA.
Maybe it's just me, but we're getting all bent-over for a LEO simply doing their civil duty? Yes, maybe stopping rider for "possible" non-DOT violation seems a bit of a lower priority reason, but I recall getting pulled over back in the early 80's for "swerving" (when clearly not) just to check me (teen) for alcohol/drugs. Again, a stretch, all for the better good. I'm sure, for every non-violation, there are tons of violators. Check the #'s on weekend/night LEO check-points. They normally run quite a few busts/violations. Simply upholding the law isn't a big deal in my book...flame-on...

When a law is broken we all are. I am sure your opinion would change if you were late for work 30 minutes after an Im bored pull over. All your boss will hear is pulled over for driving drunk. They will have no clue it was out of boredom. If it has not happened to you yet, it will some day.
The first line says "permanent" . A sticker is not permanent
How'd you get from "permanent" to "under gel coat"?
You can't just pick out words from the sentence to support a flagging position. You have to read all of it.
S5.6.1 Each helmet shall be labeled permanently and legibly, in a manner such that the label(s) can be read easily without removing padding or any other permanent part, with the following:
(a) Manufacturer's name or identification.
(b) Precise model designation.
(c) Size.
(d) Month and year of manufacture. This may be spelled out (for example, June 1988), or expressed in numerals (for example, 6/88).
This section applies to the certification sticker on the INSIDE of the helmet. Stop trying to confuse the issue, you don't know what you're talking about.

Wow Dusty........Im with ya
So its ok for a cop to break the law on the chance he might find a non cop breaking the law? Cops should be held to a higher standard when it comes to compliance of law.............not a lower one. And where do you draw the line? Using your logic it should be ok for a cop to walk into your house when he wants on the off chance he might find some illegal activity going on. Could you imagine how many law breakers they could find doing that? The numbers would be huge.

LOL. I know Waldo. I drive about 22 mph through there just in case.
......Last time I talked to a cop was the one who parks at the end of my driveway a month ago to catch speeders on the rural roads. I just moved in to my retirement home away from people. Previous owners were fine with police at the end of the driveway.
I walked out and asked what he is doing, he explained and I asked him to gather his revenue somewhere else........

Hmmm... I just (last month) bought two new helmets, one modular and one 3/4, both HJC -- and both have DOT stickers. Personally, I have never been questioned about a sticker.
