I thought about getting a locking gas cap, mainly thinking about preventing saboteurs (sugar in the tank, etc.). Then I realized they don't sell locking oil caps - if someone really wants to mess with your bike, there's lots of other things they could do ...

I also don't lock my front door unless I am going out of town overnight and the keys to my truck have been in the ignition for over 8 years now lol (small town life has it's advantages )

Fatbob didn't have a lock and never had a problem. Got the streetglide and the only problem I had was forgetting the key. So I got rid of the lock and installed a push button.

The locking gas cap ranks right up there with an air temperature gauge. Never was able to figure those two out. I guess dressers use special, highly sought after fuel and are surrounded by a different air temperature, I don't know. Been ride'in a dresser since '96 and still can't figure it out

That makes two of us. The air temperature around the engine, why do I need to know that? Give me the air temperature that's not around the engine. I'm more interested in that. I like to know when it gets close to freezing when the roads are wet.

Removed the OEM lock and replaced it with a push button release. I knew sooner than later I would drop the key and scratch the paint.

The purpose of the locking gas cap is not to keep someone from stealing a few gallons of gas, hell anyone who's willing to suck gas through a plastic tube is going to find a vessel with more than a few gallons.

No, the real reason they put locks on the fuel door is so that you can never be more than one gas stop away from home before you realize you left your fob (and key) at home. The Mrs. doesn't have to travel as far to bring you your key/fob.
