IIRC, there's probably a friction adjustment on the cable for the enrichener. At least there is one on my 93 CV carbed EVO.
All stock carbed bikes are gonna be a bit cold blooded. EPA restrictions make the idle mixture very lean. Most people 'fix' this the first week by removing the 'plug' and adjusting the idle mixture.
If it's hot out, it needs "air", so no idling....cold, idling is fine! Suggest you ride it gently while she warms up, don't want angry neighbors, IMHO.

I was thinking the samething. The stock lean condition will make it seem more cold blooded.
I would not let it idle for more than 2-4 minutes especilly with the throttle set higher.

That sounds like the best advice yet, because I didn't own this bike during the first 700 miles, and I don't know what was done and what wasn't, although the mechanic gave me "his best observation".....I have to ride over to Fort Worth Harley next week....think I'll have them check the idle mixture while I'm there... I appreciate everyone's help and thoughts, and I'll let you know how the visit to the "stealer" turns out!!! Great bunch of Bros. I have in here!!!
I have an S$S carb , to start I pulll the choke lever all the way up . I let it sit for about15 seconds or until idle increases to 2000 rpm and then push it all the way in and ride. No stalls, takes about 5 miles to warm up. The only thing I notice, before it is fully warmed to operating temperature, is that the idle sits around 950 rpm, instead of 1050. With the original CV carb I would have to ride with the choke part way open until it reached operating temperature. It's not going to damage anything the way you do it , but you will build up more carbon in the motor your way. ...Mark...
Choke on full for 30 seconds or so and start easing it off from there as you put your helmet and gloves on and give the tires a glance, etc (another minute or so?) so that when your butt hits the seat you're at half choke. As you take off push it in to maybe 1/3 choke andstart out easy down the street for a block or two and by then you shouldhave the choke off and be on your way. Yeah it may still be a bit "cold" so dont do any fancy stuff in traffic til she's fully warmed up of course, but you should be just fine doingit that way.
ORIGINAL: Psycho...Based on what you've told us here, I'd be looking for an intake leak.
This is also a possibility. MyEVO developed a leak around the intake manifold gaskets. It absolutely would not stay running unless the enrichener was pulled fully out, or the rpms were kept above 2000.
Your bike should stay running, even when cold, with just pulling out the enrichener. You shouldn't have to set the throttle lock.Hell, you're in Texas...I'm in friggin Michigan and I don't have to lock the throttle on my bike. Even when it's in the 30's.
From what you've posted, I'd still diagnose it as a poor idle mixture. Find a shop with a dyno and someone that knows how to tune a CV carb. You won't regret it.

If it is hot out it takes less time. A good rule of thumb is to let it idle long enough to where you can sense by touch heat on your jugs. If it is cold it may take a minute or two, if it is hot you will feel the heat building up in less time. Maybe 30-45 seconds. I had a wrench tell me this and I have always followed this rule. Once it is warmed up it needs air to keep it cool. Ride safe.
If its idling at less than 1000 rpm's your not helping matters............alot of guys think its "cool" to have it idling at 600 or 700 rpm's..its not good for the motor [sm=badidea.gif]
