Default Changing PIN on Harley Smart Security System

I have a 2012 SG and want to change the PIN for the security system. It has not been change since the dealer set it for me with the dealer PIN. It was purchase new. I read the owner manual and it states you need the security fab near the bike, turn ignition on, off, on, off and on. Then you hit the left turn signal button three times and then the right one. Then you will be able to change the PIN. I also read somewhere on this forum, instead of hitting the left turn signal button three times they state only two for the left signal button, then one time on the right signal button. So I tried changing the PIN, ignition on, off, on, off and on. Then I hit left signal button three time and then the right signal button once. Nothing happens on the odometer, but the mileage. I tried it again and the same. Then I tried it again with only hitting the left signal button only two time, like what I read on this forum. This time it work. I tried it a few time after and it worked. What confuses me is the owner manual states three times on the left signal button, but my SG, it is two. Anyone else have noticed this.

The owners manual procedure worked as expected when I changed mine on my 2011 Street Glide

To Change PIN Number

1. Select a 5-digit (1 thru 9) PIN and write it down
2. With an assigned fob present, turn IGN switch : On-Off-On-Off-On (Note: Kill switch needs to be in the run position also)
3. Press left turn signal switch 3 times
4. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (Turn signals will flash 3 times and current PIN will be displayed in the odometer with 1st digit flashing)
5. Enter first digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “a” times (a = 1st digit of new PIN)
6. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “a” will replace the current in odometer window)
7. Enter 2nd digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “b” times (b = 2nd digit of new PIN)
8. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “b” will replace the current in odometer window)
9. Enter 3rd digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “c” times (c = 3rd digit of new PIN)
10. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “c” will replace the current in odometer window)
11. Enter 4th digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “d” times (d = 4th digit of new PIN)
12. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “d” will replace the current in odometer window)
13. Enter 5th digit of new PIN by pressing left turn signal switch “e” times (e= 5th digit of new PIN)
14. Press right turn signal switch 1 time and release (New digit “e” will replace the current in odometer window)
15. Before the module rearms, turn the ignition key to OFF (Odometer will return to mileage - Turning Ignition kehy to OFF stores the new PIN in the module)

I had trouble getting mine to take until I realized one little thing... now if I could just remember what that was! Sorry, maybe somebody without Alzheimers will chime in.

Oh yeah, I remember now... I was going TOO SLOW through the process. Funny, that's what she said, too...

Bike on side stand and steering turned to the left. Proceed with programing.
