Do you really think there isn't bearings in a car manual transmission? I worked as an engineer at H.D. and a gear company. As gears roll against each other, they basically rub or slide against each other at the start of the active profile and until they leave mesh. This sliding action and pressure requires a lubricant made for it. Try a synthetic gear lube and you be amazed how much better it shifts and how quiet it is. Amsoil, Red Line, Mobil 1 are just a few.

Since my last post 6 days ago I thought I'd try a few oils. Redline Shock Proof Light Weight 75-140, Mobil1 70-90, Amsoil Severe Gear 75-140 and now Royal Purple Max Gear 75-140. I feel the Royal Purple is noticeable in shifting smoothness. I'll run it over the holiday and give feed back.
