The non dot hellmets will offer you some skidding protection, but not much protection from direct impacts due to not having enuff cushion effect because of little or no padding which should be about 1".

I have a Shoei for serious riding, and a German DOT helmet for local slow cruising. I compared my DOT helmet to a real WWII German Infantry helmet and found them similar in size. A non-DOT novelty German helmet looks silly compared to the real thing![sm=crossbonesgif.gif]

I have a 2 DOT helmet one fullface and a 1/2 there both comfortable to me. Here in California the Highway Patrol and some local officer will pull your over to make sure you have a DOT helmet. It happen to me yesterday.
