What app can I use to plan on my iPad or computer then load the route or trip on my iPhone to use as a gps? The Harley Ride planner as quirky as it is, can plan it, but the App on the phone doesn't navigate.
I can't figure it out on Google Maps, or the iPhone mapping software.
Buy Garmin's app which is around $50. It stores the maps locally so it works like a dedicated gps. What I mean is, you don't have to wait until the next portion of the map is downloaded from the cell like you do with the map the phone comes with.
I have an iPad and use "InRoute". It gives you a starting and ending pin. It also gives you 5 waypoint pins. And it measures the miles and time from start to finish. It's available in the App Store and it's free.
I went to Northeast Georgia from Kentucky last weekend and used an app that my son put me on to called Waze. It's free and works much better than google maps. I loaded it on my iPhone and would just give it a destination from wherever I was at, at that time. It warned me of vehicles on the shoulders, police shooting radar, and traffic back ups. It even gave me alternate routes to avoid stop and go traffic. I am glad I had it.

It can be done with Google maps on a PC and Google maps engine on your smart phone.
The most recent update removed the "save route" feature...sadly. Hopefully they'll bring it back. In the mean time, you can still use Google maps...get your router set...and then e-mail yourself the URL. Now open it up from your e-mail and you have at least the static route you saved.
Tyre or HD Ride Planner are alternatives if you need to save routes. I kinda just go on the fly after initially planning it, so Google Maps still does fine for me.
Sygic is a nice mapping tool as well. It's a bit pricey, but what I like about it is it doesn't need a data connection. Once the maps are loaded (downside=fairly large file) it works fine and does not need to pull cellular data.
It does route planning as well.
