Default Induction module

By bike a 2009 SG has a bad induction module as of June 20th. The part is apparently not available and on back order. I called the customer service department at the HD mother ship. I was told it will not be available until July 18th at the earliest. Is that the kind of part availability we should get from HD? I was told this part was only used on 2009 and 2010 models. I have 35000 miles and will need to pay for the part when it does come in. Indian Chieftain starting to look good. Customer service couldn't be any worse.

What is so bad about the customer service? Why do you mention the fact that you'll have to pay for the part, as if that's something exceptional?

You think the manufacturer should compensate you because you're having problems with your 5 year old bike? Seriously?

Auto manufacturers are required to have parts available for 20 years. Maybe $23000 bikes are considered disposable vehicles

Go to a car dealer and ask for a part for a 6 year old car that hasn't been used in their cars for 5 or more years. Unless it's a very common item, he's going to have to order it!

Your part IS available, you just think you should be compensated because you have to wait for it.

I have ridden that bike in 17 states. Thankful that it malfunctioned at home rather than in New Mexico or California last summer. The Chinese manufacturer will ultimately ship when the order gets large enough.

And you really think Indian would be in better with parts availability?

They don't even have a fraction of the dealer network that HD has.

And as for your "auto manufacturers have to have keep parts for 20 years".
That is completely false.

I have a 1996 Corvette (less than 20 years old), and there are several parts no longer available from the manufacturer. Only option is a salvage yard.

Thanks for the parts availability correction. I guess my expectations are too high. My local dealer however has been very accommodating and helpful. I will recommend them to anyone.

Sell your Harley, get an Indian or one of those disposable Japanese things.
