I'm not sure of this because what you write still leaves a question but it's a common understanding (and also nothing more than a courtesy) that slower traffic stays to the right and if you're bitching because some guy was riding your *** and you were in one of the left lanes the problem is yours and not his.
Exactly. In Virginia you run the risk of getting a ticket on the interstate for failure to yield the right of way. The left lane is for passing. If you're in the left lane, and someone wants to pass you -- no matter how fast you are going -- you must yield.
<><Peace
BTW Towjam, I almost snorted my drink on the monitor when I read your "ode" to the period. . . . . "embrace it, love it, nurture it. Use it." Funny stuff, man.
There's no excuse to ride on anyones @ss!!Slower traffic should keep right,at least that's what I was taught 20some years ago. Is it me, or does it seem like everyone loves the left lane these days?

There is an excuse for riding on someones ***. You are attempting (hopefully in a polite manner) to remind them that they should be in the right hand lane. If they were law abiding and considerate there wouldn't be anybody on their *** would there?
I'd have seen the car pulling up behind me. I'd have moved over to allow him to speed by me since I was going the speed limit but, he was going faster. I'd have gone back into that lane. I'd have continued on my merry way. Why bother with it. This is not how you win friends and influence people.

Defender, if you're aware of what's going on around you and you notice a vehicle behind you gaining on your position, should you pull over into the right lane there wouldn't be any tail-gating. I guess the key to the whole thing is being aware of what's going on around you.
