I'm not sure of this because what you write still leaves a question but it's a commonunderstanding (and also nothing more than a courtesy) that slower traffic stays to the right and if you're bitching because some guy was riding your *** and you were in one of the left lanes the problem is yours and not his.
You are correct sir.
Left lane for passing, right lane for driving. State sets and enforces speed limits, not civilians by driving in the left lane.
The US is one of the only places in the whole world that ppl actually "drive" in the left lane. Everywhere else ppl drive in the right lane, pass in the left and then move back into the right. It's that attitude that "I am here, and I own the road" that always suprises me.
Get out of the way. It's safer for all parties concerned.
Joe
You haven't driven around here much, eh Joe? This retarded burg is full of left-lane slowpokes. These dumbasses, get on the highway doing 60 km/h, then scoot right over to the left lane and sit there doing aorund 100km/h while the rest of traffice is moving at 120 or better! drives me friggin NUTS!
As I see it, there is right. And then there is foolish. Irrespective of whether or not one is 'in the right', being on a motorcycle when up against a vehicle is a poor time to demonstrate one is within the confines of the traffic laws. If I'm going the speed limit in whatever the hell lane and some vehicle is riding my ***, I'm going to move over! Makes no difference whether I'm in the right or what. Again, I'm on a bike and he's in a vehicle; he'll win each and every time should metal come to metal. Yeah, the guy shouldn't have been riding your *** such to the extent that he did. But given that he obviously was, I would havemoved to the side and let him go right on by. I, too, have always subscribed to the notion that slower traffic take to the right hand lane. Just my take.
Who cares how fast you are going and if the people coming up on you are speeding. Get your azz over if you are slower. No excuses. Not that hard. Just move over and let the people passing in the passing lane get by. Seems like kind of an azzhole thing to just stay in the left lane, I would have given you the one fingered salute no matter if you were on a bike or a car.
Now on another note, it is a habit I have to break, Emergency Vehicles run the left lane so I spend a ton of time in that lane for work and it becomes habit.

Give me a break!! I drove emergency vehicles, admittedly only for seven years but you don't "form a habit". You say he was coming on you from 1/4 mile away. That suggests to me that you knew he was coming. I don't care if he was going 100 mph, that's all the more reason to get out of his way. Just because you put out his house fire doesn't entitle you to take on the posture of teaching the world proper driving etiquette. Especially on a motorcycle!!!!!!!!
Sorry you didn't get the response you were looking for.

Exactly. In Virginia you run the risk of getting a ticket on the interstate for failure to yield the right of way. The left lane is for passing. If you're in the left lane, and someone wants to pass you -- no matter how fast you are going -- you must yield...
From your mouth to the FHP's ears. That's a "law" down here, but like so many others, it's never enforced. Not saying the guy in the pickup was right to ride your a$$, but if you were in the left lane, you were just as wrong as he was.
