In Mass. everyone bunches up in the left lane. One of my friends calls it "the SUV lane." It's gotten to the point where you can make much better time in the right lanes than the left. Tailgating is also common but it's because opening up a follow space invites someone to jump into it. It's a very sick place.
This situation is similar to the Chicken and the Egg thing.
Had the bike not been operated in the left lane, it would have been open for passing.........had the truck driver not been exceeding the speed limit, likewise, it would not have been an issue.

The actual speed of each vehicle is not what's important. It's the fact that a driver was being overtaken by someone behind them going faster.
LEFT LANE is for PASSING.
Slower Vehicles move to the right.
Out for a ride today, just a short jaunt, a little windy and on the nippy side, well I am on my way back to town and a pickup who was behind me when we turned on the road into town runs up behind me and rides my butt I am running the speed limit he finally goes around me and starts pointing to the other lane like your in the wrong lane this is a four lane highway.
Welp I get into town and stop at the store and low and behold, when he gets out of the truck the man who I know, and even put his house out when he caught it on fire says" man i did not know that was you" and I said does that make a difference and he kind of stutters around and I let him know that there is no law that states I have to move lanes for a four wheeled vehicle, it was just as easy for him to change lanes if he was in that big of a hurry, well he ducked his head and went into the store he finally apologized on the way out, and I told him to make sure he showed the same respect to everyone on the road whether they were on 2 or more tires.
WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!!
If you have 2 lanes going in your direction ... and you were hanging out in the left lane .... then you should have moved. Doesn't give him license to run up on you a$$ ... but common sense should have told you to move when that happened ... since common courtesy didn't. My .02

I consider myself a Newbie when it comes to riding as I have only been back on a bike for about 15 months now after a 35 year absence. I am probably "overly" cautious at times and the cagers who like to run up your butt really annoy me. Basic common courtesy regardless if you are on two or four wheels can help to keep you alive.
