SO I have the chance to buy a nice top brand helmet. New but was a shelf model and is 12 years old... Never been used, still in box and bag... Some manufacturer say that after 5 years from the MFG date it should be discarded.
What say you all about the matter....If it was climate controlled would the foam really get that bad that it would be trash?
Don't buy it. First helmet design has advanced considerably in the last 12 years. Second the foam deteriorates over time. Just think of what happens to those disposable picnic coolers you buy after a few years.
It's the styrofoam that basically protects your head and it takes styrofoam over a million years to decompose. I think you're safe. The full face I wear on my Z is over 7 years old, I feel perfectly safe in it. And I ride my Z really really fast.
