The evidence is that not one helmet company published any research that proves old helmets are unsafe. It would be a no brainer for a helmet company to publish these studies if they were available....don't you think? That's pretty damn good evidence that you've fallen for this BS about buying helmets every few years. Now that we got that out of the way, maybe you should go mortgage your house to build a bomb shelter and buy radiation suits for the nuclear holocaust that's coming.

I'd go with the Obvious Answer ......

It's good all the way up to the point it smashes into the pavement or 1st hard surface.....

Then you may want to consider a new one

LOL

Guys -
The hardening/deterioration of styrofoam is not made up. It's funny how people needing to justify their choices will try so hard to be correct to others.

If you want to wear an old helmet that may be compromised, it's your choice.

Not everything is a conspiracy to take your money. Just LOOK at a current helmet vs. one only 5-10 years old. I had the opportunity to do just this yesterday, looking at my new Shoei vs. my buddy's Shoei that he just dug out of the closet to start riding again. Whether or not there has been deterioration of the foam, the old helmet looks like what it is - old. Material science has improved so much that they simply are not the same level as the modern helmets.

Saying "I don't believe them because they don't have a study" and then dismissing the science out of hand that styrofoam is going to lose it's ability to absorb impact over time is counter-intuitive. You don't need a study when the facts are already known.

Wear what you will - I agree you have the choice and would not tell you otherwise. But know that, if you are actually wearing the helmet for protection and not just to comply with mandatory laws, you are compromising some of the safety you believe you are gaining.

Are you misers still trying to justify wearing a 10 year old helmet?

Okee Dokee, I guess. Enjoy the mound of money you saved while you ride your 20K motorcycle.
