Good tip and glad you weren't hurt. One thing did come to mind though... if you are stopped in the right third could that make you less visible than if you were stopped right in front of the driver? Especially, an older driver that doesn't see real good in the first place or a texting driver that is only glancing up to see if someone is there?
I've had the pucker factor of sitting on the bike at a light and hearing an approaching car behind me locking up his breaks because he saw me late. I was first at the light and was able to advance safely so I didn't get rear ended. I've been rear ended in two Mustangs in stop and go traffic as well. But I've never been stopped at a light with the car behind me also already stopped and then they decide to go forward. Gotta keep that head on a swivel cuz they really are all out to get us.

AZ,
perhaps, but I have full LED with Run/Break/Turn and had a High-Viz jacket. I can't imagine being in the right third made any difference.
Yeah, I hear ya. I always try to stop far enough back and far enough left so the driver in front of me can see me in their left mirror. But, gonna give your tip some thought because it sure seems to have paid off for you.
