Default Brake Fluid Changes

Do many of you change your brake fluid every 2 years? If not, what is your rationale?

A mechanic buddy of mine recommends it saying that fluid degrades over time by picking up moisture in the air. Another buddy, a gear head, says he never has changed brake fluid whether in a car or on his bikes.

Opinions?

I have seen brake systems that have not been change regularly. Fluid looked like baby poop and the calipers needed a complete rebuild. So for me my auto's get flushed every two years and the bike once a year. Fluid is cheap and a small price to pay for the most important part of any vehicle.

brake fluid is hydroscopic, and does absorb moisture out of the air itself. water will not compress, and will give a spongy brake feel, and will cause fluid to boil at a lower temp, as well as corroding calipers, m/cylinders, and any other brake component. they are not designed for water!! Your gear head friend need to learn about brake fluid flushing. just because he hasn't done it, doesn't make that right. do it and save yourself some time and money

This is what happens when you don't change your brake fluid!

This came from my 64 impala, no wonder I had no front brake on one side!

Every two years. I changed my 2012 RK's brake fluid this year and I'll change it again in 2016.

Never have changed in anything before unless had to change something out and needed to bleed them. I have only owned this bike around 2 years and I bet has original fluid. Checked it the other day and looked halfway decent but sounds like a good winter project.
