Default Uneven lanes..

Been finding more and more road crews are using "Road Construction" signs for everything. Was on the highway the other day saw the signs so slowed some and next thing you know we are on a milled road with a 3 inch lip between lanes. They had an uneven lanes sign about 1/2 way through the construction. This got me thinking if had to exit how do you cross over from the milled side over the lip?

You would slow down a lot, and go over the lip as close to a 90 degree angle as possible.

This is a big problem in NJ too. I have crossed over but always nervous. Especially on a highway because people ride right up your butt so very hard to slow down to make cross over. Some signs say M/C stay in lane . My bikes are bigger would hate to be on smaller bike and cross over. I guess safest way even if you miss your exit is ride to end of milled at least there your going over horizontally or like a T ( 90 degree angle ) and hopefully they made a ramp. I heard women on Motorcycle got killed on highway couple weeks ago in NJ from hitting a pot hole but was wondering if it was one these situations. 3 inches is pretty high I think most of them around here are 2 inch or less. Not sure. They all give me that pucker feeling.

the thing that would cure that poor planning -- is the first several bikes that go down -- file a law suit for negligence

Do the "Dukes of Hazzard" slide over the lip...foot down, high speed, crank hard right and slam brake over the lip...works every time (at least for them/TV).

If I had to cross over, I'd do it very carefully. And grip the hell out of the bars and hold my breath doing it.

I recall a story of an MSF instructor who went down because of a scenario like that. His passenger was doa.

In my case, "have to" would mean there is a truck stopped in my lane and I can't avoid hitting it unless I change lanes. If it were to make an exit, I would just keep going until the road evened out and double back.

Could I do it? 90% sure I could. I would make it a very aggressive lane change and counter steer (just before hitting the ridge) in the opposite direction to "pop" the front wheel onto the higher part. But, I would be sweating through my shirt afterward. It's not worth the risk imo.
