I always wanted a Harley. I love the ride, the sound and the feeling I get as I blast down the road. Other bikes just didn't do it for me. Nothing wrong with them, but they just weren't what I wanted.

I started out with a Cushman Scooter at the age of 13ish and rode it til I got my driver's license just after I turned 16. In the interim, I had a small Suzuki during the early 70's in Wisconsin and in October of 2010 bought a 2010 Suzuki s40 Boulevard 650cc single cylinder here on Maui and enjoyed it for 18 months or so. I sold the Suzuki s40 and bought a used 09 H-D Sportster in October of 2012. Best purchase I ever made. Great Bike and perfect for the way I use it.

Always been into American iron whether that be muscle cars or Harley's. To me the Harley is an American icon and one of the brands that defines our heritage. Sure the jap bikes run better, handle better, brake better, etc but they just don't have the looks or attitude a Harley has. Plus I grew up around a lot of bikers watching them ride and checking out their bikes so I've literally been wanting one since I was a kid.

I think we scared the OP off, because he never came back.

I'll offer another viewpoint.

A friend was busting my chops for being "a Harley rider". I told him I wasn't a Harley rider. "Well, what are you riding?".

A Harley.

"WTF?"

Ok, so here's the deal. I started riding in 1964. I rode my first Harley, a 1959 Sportster, somewhere around 1966, because my Dad bought our first new one, a 1967 XLH ($1,659!!), shortly after that.

I rode everything. I ride everything. I'm not a "Harley rider", I'm a motorcycle rider who happens to love Harleys.

If you can't understand that, I can't help ya.

All of my previous bikes have been Hondas. I currently have a 2004 Road King Custom, and don't plan on buying anything other than a Harley-Davidson or maybe a Victory in the future.

There are several reasons I bought my FLHRS.
1) I am a patriotic American and support American companies when I can.
2) I will always be able to find replacement parts for my Harley-Davidson.
3) I needed something heavier to ride in North Dakota because of the wind.
4) All the cool stuff says Harley-Davidson on it.

For one thing the sound. Nothing else sounds like a Harley Big V-Twin. Quality yes my friends the newer bikes are a quality build. Dealer & support network. Just try and find a BMW Motorcycle dealer on a cross country trip in an emergency! Need I say more!

I have found them to be reliable and they are good looking. I am not loyal to HD though. I ride the best bike for the job at hand and I don't care who makes it. HD has never let me down though.
