Clearing codes on a 2003 Deuce

Default Clearing codes on a 2003 Deuce
Is there a way to clear historic engine codes without a scanteck? The way the book calls for it to be done is to cycle the engine 50 times. Each cycle is to start the bike and let run for 5 seconds and shut off? I have done this and the same 2 codes stay in the memory. The Map sensor has been replaced and there are no currant codes, yet cycling 50 times didn't work. I have a slight problem running the starter so much. is there a time I need to wait after shutting down or an immediate start up?Anyone have a suggestion?

… the 'old' way was to disconnect the battery (+pos) cable…
