01 Deuce, No spark Hard DTC 41 <- RESOLVED CKP SENS.
Hey guys,
Long time since I have logged in, hope I am in correct area
Park Deuce Tuesday after work no indication of any faults.
Wednesday am she wouldn't start.
Cranks OK, battery a bit week so I put in a spare and have it on trickle charge.
Fuel pump runs, check engine light on but shows hard fault.
replaced coil quickly as I had a spare, still no spark.
So I check codes today, Hard fault Flash code 41
Crank sensor Intermittent or sync error
Checked for resistance at ckp connector and at ECU
5 to 7 ohms
Checked for AC voltage at connector and ecu
around 3 acv
Manual says replace sensor if that don't fix it replace ecu,
hmmmm
the strange part is, when cranking with ckp sensor unplugged, no fuel pump, with it plugged in there is pump operation.
you would think it would be fine.
really don't want to through parts at her, hoping some expert has some other tips for me to check first.

Thanx for chiming in Blob,
much appreciated.
Ya, I was thinking about the BAS, but from reading I think that would also cut the Fuel pump and Cranking would it not?
Crank sensor is going to run me about $100, even though it seems to check out properly, the manual says to replace this before the ECU
I am afraid to find out how much an ECU will run, and can't find the procedure on how to replace it.
(relearn password? does it need programmed?, these are the things I need to find out)
much appreciated.

Well this was a strange one;
First off, the manual was correct, replace CKP sensor first lol
Sensor cost me $95CA total, glad it was the ECU
I asked about the price of ECU and dealer said it was a protected order and needed VIN ownership etc to even get a price.
Ask approx how much and would just say a couple grand, wow.
What was really weird was, the resistance of sensor was good, the AC voltage was in range but it wouldn't fire (and set hard DTC, I am thinking the dtc present had the ecu to cut fuel and spark)
Also, when cranking I had the fuel pump prime and run, with CKP unplugged the pump did not run.
So it was sending some sort of signal.
That is another reason I didn't think it would be the sensor.
One other thing I noticed (which did point me to CKP in the first place) was
with ign on and in gear, moving the bike to rotate the engine a bit, I always hear the pump run, with this sensor it did not.
Well I am glad she is running and I hope this info may help some one in the future if needed.

Glad you got it fixed, I have been picking up spare electrical parts on eBay, look for old stock I picked up a ignition module for us100, a fraction of the price. As our bikes get older these parts are harder to get, also nice for diagnostic purpose.
FYI the ignition can be changed no problem, the tssm is another animal.

The number is on your module.
