Default Handlebar Help

I'm going to finally change out the horrible stock bars on my 2010 Fat Boy Lo. I'm going with 14" ape hangers and will be keeping the stock 2" riser. I need some input on this job as I had originally intended on taking it on myself.

I stopped by my HD dealer today to check on prices of parts and get input...for them to install bars, cables and electrical (through the bars) it's going to run $800 just for labor?! I get that the electrical part is tedious but this seems insane.

Any reason I shouldn't do this myself? I get that I'll need to bleed the brakes, take my time on splicing electrical, remove my exhaust to get to the clutch, etc. I live in Philly so my days of riding are almost over...time I have.

What are your thoughts?

Personally, I feel that $800 just for labor is a rip off. Back when I had my 16's put on my bike, it never cost anywhere near that much. Do you have any Indy's in your area that you could compare prices with? As for whether you can do it or not, would depend on your mechanical and electrical skill. I'm sure there's videos or written instructions out there for a project like this, so the rest would be up to you.

Only you know if this is something you are capable of doing. I know a lot of people that install apes themselves, and a lot of people that don't want to mess with it for a number of reasons. Eight hours labor is a pretty standard rate for a non-fairing ape install, ten-ish on fairing bikes...
