Stator Question
There was a next service due sticker on the right rear side of the triple tree and HD branded tires on it so factory dealer service was implied from the visible signs. This looked like some bodies dealer maintained baby. By my measurements 14" apes, custom braided cables, set up solo with the back end clean, no bags or sissy bar.
The compensator is done as near as I can tell. The bike starts up like a champ on the first turn when cold. After a 8-10 mile run the start up is labored but it fires up fairly quickly. After the 8-10 mile run back home there are no words to describe the metallic sliding grinding sound on attempted restart. If you hold the start button it will start but the sounds out of the bottom of the motor are indescribable.
in the middle of narrowing down the problem before digging into the left case. I had electrical issues which made me question the health of the stator and as I just shelled out the money for what I thought was a complete shop service manual I would rather not by the Electrical version( this really pissed me off).
Okay all of that being said here are the numbers from my output test using a Triplett 9005-A digital ohm meter.
cold switch off-12.61v
cold switch on -12.23v
cold idle -14.14v-14.28v
cold aprox 3k -14.28v-14.31v
------------------------------------
hot after ride switch off-12.63v
hot switch on -12.43v
hot idle -14.24v
hot aprox. 3k rpm -14.28v
-----------------------------------
Battery test cold next morning switch off -12.57v
after switch on for five minutes -12.06v
battery rebound after switch off one minute -12.43v
Note: 4 month old AGM battery
Do these numbers look right? I am new to the world of Harley but not bikes in general and in most cases there is a wider gap in voltage output from idle to operating rpm.

If you wish to check the stator follow the stickys in the Electrical/Lighting/Alarm forum on charging system testing. There are 2.
