Default Need help and suggestions

First I want to say thanks in advance for any help and suggestions given. I currently have an '09 Ultra that I bought new and have done all maintenance and upgrades myself, knock on wood its still running. Here is were I need help and suggestions. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2004 Heritage Softail carberated with 10k miles from a second owner. The bike is totally stock nothing has been upgraded at all, bike is in immaculate shape always garage kept. Second owner had all servicing done at dealer, I know that aint saying much and it has two new tires. Question 1- Is $8500 a good price? 2nd What questions should I be asking other than has the cam tensioners been replaced? I'm thinking about buying this bike for my wife, who wants to ride after she takes the motorcycle safety course. Again thanks for all help and suggestions and mainly have a blessed day.

Decent but not a great price, hit him with 7800 and see if you can get it for that. Should make a good bike for the wife.

If it's bone stock, I highly doubt that cam chain tensioners have been changed. At 10,000 miles, I wouldn't let that deter you from buying it if you get it for a price that you're happy with. You could double the miles on it before you really need to start worrying about it. I changed the tensioners in my 04 at 17,000 because I wanted an excuse to put cams in it, and there wasn't anything wrong with them. My two cents.

This is Black Book for a 2004 Heritage Classic. If it is nice shape, low miles, dealer serviced, I think it is worth it. These guides are just a guide, not a Bible.

$7,235 - Finance Advance
$16,995 - MSRP Value
$8,725 - Avg. Retail
$7,395 - Auction Wholesalse
$6,910 - Clean Trade
$6,055 - Fair Trade

I would never sell my bike for BB, because I keep it dealer serviced, and clean. I just put $3,500 in upgrades and repairs on my bike.
I have seen neglected bikes that I wouldn't give half of BB for.
So I think people telling you to offer less, without seeing the bike, might cause you to lose the deal. Offer him $8 k, but if he refuses I think $8,500 is a fair price.

On the other hand, I wouldn't buy my wife a bike, until she took the course. Maybe she won't like riding. My wife was thinking of buying a bike, but I bought her a Mustang convertible instead. It will be a lot more practical toy, and much safer.

Scully you think the same way I do since I'm in there may as well go ahead and put a cam in. Ron she and my daughter are both going to take the riders safety course. And this would give me a second bike to get around on when its just me and not having to pull out my ultra. I also may be able to use replacing the tensioners as a bargaining tool to get bike at lower price. Thanks for the input guys it helps to get ideas from people with the experience and understanding of what I'm talking about.
