Default Question about getting tuned

I have a 06 Heritage softail EFI..I am the 2nd owner and I have owned it for just a couple months now. The bike has 6000 miles and runs pretty good. I have changed all the fluids and plugs and tires and a few cosmetic items just for my liking. Bike runs really good however the previous owner had installed V&H long shot exhaust which I like but was wondering if it needs tuned after the upgrade? I ask the original if it had been tuned and he said only what the dealership said it needed..I am wanting to add a screamin eagle air intake as well..after that addition should it be custom tuned or should I do anything else..Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

If just the exhaust has been done it should be fine without the tune (as evidenced by you saying it runs good). If you add the intake upgrade then yes, you should do a tune. Most likely in the form of a Power Commander (probably PCIII model for a 2006 Softail). You can get on Power Commander's website and look for maps, or you can go thru Fuel Moto site sponsor for them to send you a unit specifically tuned to your setup.

You can get a piggy back tuner like a Power Commander 5 and start with a canned map that you will need to modify/adjust to dial it in the best; or purchase a flash tuner (Direct Link, SE race tuner or alike) and have it dyno tuned by a competent tuner (not dealer) to get the most out of your bike. This will also yield a dyno chart so you can see how much power and torque you are making, and where you are making it.
