Default kickstand over rotating

I bought a 2006 Electra glide with an aftermarket kickstand already installed. I'm looking to change the whole kickstand out to a more factory style kisckstand. My question is what keeps the kickstand from going to far forward once deployed? The one that's currently on the bike will over rotate forward if I'm not careful and I also have to guide the stop into the bracket. will a proper spring keep the kickstand from going to far forward?

Here is a picture of my situation.

I too would suspect a stock kickstand spring would be a good idea. An easy way to remove and install a spring is to get a bunch of quarters (25 cents) and push them in between the spring coil spring and then retract the kickstand. The spring will come right off.

Do the same thing to install the new spring. Easy as pie.

Hope this helps

That Jiffy Stand is screwed up. The PO has welded the lock tab to it after breaking the threaded portion off. There's a washer & nut combo that goes where the sloppy weld is. Get a new OEM stand and hardware with a new spring.

yes after looking at other pictures online I was able to see that there is supposed to be a nut on top, I knew this one on my bike just looked odd.

Thanks

I agree that you should replace that stand with a fresh one. To get that one off will require removing the four mounting bolts, then refit the new one, without the spring or top stop/tab. Forget the coins in the spring! Turn the stand forwards, when you should be able to easily install the spring at both ends, then swing it back to it's parked position, to refit the tab and nut. Obviously the bike will need to be held upright to do that.
