I could feel my engine bouncing on bumps on my 09 fxd. Changed out my front engine mount with OEM, now i can feel excess vibration in my pegs, bars, & the drivetrain feels different under acceleration. Any tips? I just swapped them out, am i supposed to do the alignment with one mount change?
What condition is your rear mount in? What mileage on your bike? I would certainly consider replacing the rear one as well and in any event, when only changing one of them, alignment is well worth checking. My Dyna was never vey smooth running, despite owning it from new (in 2003).
It's always a wise idea to perform the vehicle/engine alignment if you've had the front isolator out. Dyna's are very vulnerable to their alignment; the engine, primary, transmission, rear fork and rear wheel all ride on 2 isolators and the correct positioning of the upper stabilizer. Not properly aligned you could have all sorts of odd vibrations, decel shuddering, and speed instability...
My '13 when new was not correctly aligned, the front isolator was under tension and collapsed contacting the engine bracket. I replaced the isolator and performed the alignment at 600 miles on the ODO. To accurately align my Wide Glide I needed to use shims and longer grade 8 bolts on the front isolator but the result was minimal vibrations, no decel shuddering and a rear wheel that was squared up under the fender and the correctly aligned front isolator has shown no signs of deforming or distortion.
