Exclamation Veering hard right??

Sorry if I am posting in wrong section.

Has anyone dealt with or heard of a bike suddenly veering to one side or the other? I had it happen to me very recently and now my bike is totaled and I am dealing with two surgeries from it.
Basically I had the cruise (yes I had a bagger) set rolling down the interstate when suddenly the bike just leaned hard right. I shifted my weight left as well as pushed against the left grip to try to get the bike to straighten up but unfortunately never did. Needless to say I went into the shoulder and ditch pretty fast. Now I have been riding for almost 20yrs and have never heard of it happening outside of a couple things...blown tire, maybe blown out wheel bearing, blown suspension....but looking the bike over doesn't seem to have any of these issues. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I would like to know the reason behind the crash so HOPEFULLY it doesn't happen again.
Thanks in advance.
FYI...bike was a 2011 FLTRU.

Glad to hear that you're okay. No joke is the bike green? History has shown green cars and bikes are more likely to do things like that(pull towards median, develop clunks, etc). Could it have been a big wind gust? There are a lot of variables to something like this.

LOL. Bike is black. I thought about wind gust too but it was smooth and didn't have that "feel" like wind does.

Pinch bolts....did not think about that...maybe the got loose and suspension just dropped?

If there was a raised in-line strip that you crossed, the bike could be directed off straight. It's way more prevalent with the 09 up bikes as they have a fat rear tire. Could be something wrong with the bike. Bad wheel bearing? Loose axles etc..

Wheel bearing crossed my mind too.

I will check the axles And pinch bolts. Usually u can see the bearings if they are jacked right? Or can they go THAT bad and still "look" good from the outside?

It could have been an uneven road surface that make the bike twitch to the right.

You over reacted and that is why it went bad and your mind only registered it mid-correction.

Ok, pinch bolts, fork caps, and axles are all tight and in place.

Next In Line: if I over reacted, I think the bike would have veered to the left instead, correct?

Maybe at a slow speed but if there was enough momentum, then the only thing that would happen is you would lose traction on the front tire while continuing on the current trajectory.

Making excuses why the bike failed instead of learning how to ride out of a bad situation is never going to stop it from happening again.
