Default Which speedometer cable?

I purchased an 83 XLS 1000 Roadster and the speedometer drive cable is missing. The speedometer does work, i spun it with a length of drive cable from something i have laying around. How can I find out what the correct length of a new cable is for this bike? I see varying lengths available and obviously various listings say they fit my application. Is there a way i can measure? Any help would be appreciated.

Order a speedometer cable for an 83 XLS 1000 from the dealer?

Just spend the money and get the proper OEM cable. What if an aftermarket cable you ordered for $30 cheaper turns out not to fit?

Did you get a quote from the dealer?

Just seen your latest post. Glad it worked out for you. Let us know if there much of a price difference between OEM and aftermarket.
