Speedometer Cable Help
I have a V-Star with a Harley 21" wheel that I just purchased. The previous owner said I needed a Harley
speedo cable to get the speedometer working.
Is there a difference in speedo cables? The current one fits, has a square drive and the needle moves if I manually rotate the cable.
I'm trying to figure out if there is really a difference in cables or if the speedo drive is bad.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Not sure how to answer your question! That doesn't look like a Harley wheel to me and the brake rotor isn't Harley, nor is the speedo drive Harley IMHO. H-D dropped front wheel speedo drive in the mid-90s, when they went electronic. Disconnect the cable at the speedo end and remove the inner, to check that it is still in one piece. Let us know what you find! I assume the speedo doesn't work while riding?

You say the speedo works when you turn the cable, well... does the cable turn when you spin the wheel?
The previous owner said you needed a Harley cable to make the system work...I`ll bet it never worked.
I think you have a mismatch of parts...
