No there's no perfect exhaust. That's why a tuneable 2 into one is so desirable like supertrap. The scavenging of gas back up the pipe into the valve can increase low end torque. Not usually an issue with a stock cam but when you start changing the timing of gas exchange **** happens.the lollipop has been around since the 60's. Honda used them in their 250's and 350's. Best 75 cent improvement you can make.

I'll agree about the perfect exhaust. I was simply saying that I was surprised that the pipes need a lollipop.. You are right it's scavenging, (not back pressure as stated earlier) and overlap that need to work together. Honda did not not use lollipops in the 60s. It was common for some to use Snuff'r'nots in CL160s, CL72s, CL77s and possibly CL350s, but they didn't come with them stock. They weren't really used for exhaust tuning tho.. It was more noise control. They only had 2 positions, opened and closed.. No in between.

The Vance and Hines Big shot exhaust is a nice looking exhaust but not the best at scavenging gas. The H chamber is designed to even out the gasses in each pipe but it doesn't increase the amount of gas going back up. When the bike was tuned and the washers were at 90 degrees there was more improvement in torque but some of the HP dropped so Fred backed off on the angle 15-20%.

I wonder if I put them 90 degrees and re tune at the expense of a few points of HP if the torque would be better. In theory I can't see that buying the TTS and re tuning the same set up is going to make much of a difference. Changing a variable like air intake cam or exhaust will change something But at this point I rather make what I have work. If I want to spend another $800, I would be better bumping up to a 95ci for a little more dough.

Aah yes the newer bigshots with the power chamber. I've not run those pipes but with an 88 ci motor and 203 cam you have too much cam for the pipe. Increasing displacement will definitely help.. Bump the compression a little bit too..
