Default Power Vision vs Thundermax

I have a 2012 FLHTCU I plan to over time change exhaust & intake and possibly cams ect. Before I do I would like to get either the Power Vision or Thundermax
Tunner to assist in the upgrades and any problems as I go.

What tunner (Power Vision or Thundermax) do you prefer and why?

I run a ThunderMax.
They why is easy, I never have to have the bike Dyno's again, unless I want to.

Stage 1 -(11/2 years ago) Dragula 2 into 1 , Big Sucker and Thunder Max. Put a close map into Thunder Max and let it do it's thing.

Stage2 - (this winter) Tman 555 tq cam. Loaded map 197 and let the Tmax do its thing.

Stage 3 / 4 (future) Head work, big bore, bigger injectors...ect. Load a close map amd let the Tmax do its thing.

The Tmax will also handle Turbos, super chargers and nitrous...

It is true that the Tmax will leave a couple percent HP and torque on the table compared to a first rate Dyno. On the other hand it will always be better than a shitty dyno tune (like I had on my old bike) and if you want to you can have do a dyno tune on a Tmax....

If you are only changing intake and exhaust ( stage 1)- you may not need to spend alot of money on a complex tuner.
( alot of us use XIEDS/VIEDS)

If cams/headwork/ displacement etc. are definitely in your future plans, then you would almost certainly need a tuning device
( consider that reliability, longevity and MPG will be affected, and warranty would likely be affected with changing motor internals).

The thundermax is a complete replacement ECM, which uses realtime sensor input to alter fuel and spark timing- I would consider this to be superior to a "piggyback" device.

However if your mods are "down the road", by then a new product may be on the market which is better- just like everything else electronic.

Even if you buy a PV, if you want the auto-tune feature, you will have to buy it separately. So, when you factor in the price for a PV and the AT you are probably at the price of a TM. JMO.

I like the PV a lot on my bike. I've heard good things about thundermax but I just didn't like the idea of swapping my stock ecm out. I'm sure either way you go you will be happy though.

I say go with the power vision. It with the basic auto tune works great with exhaust and intake. If you decide to do more you can add the pro auto tune later to cut down the initial cost. The gauges and monitoring you can do with the PV is also nice.

PV, if you sell your bike you can keep the PV and relicense it for your next bike.

I was just about to start a thread about how much I love my PV, but I guess I'll chime in on this one. Haven't messed with it for a while, and I forgot how easy it is to use. Just wanted to tweak the idle fuel mix. Plugged it into the computer, changed a few numbers in the fuel ratio, plugged it into the bike and hit a few buttons. Works wonderfully.

I have the TM A/T, 1st 1 for an 02' Ultra, left it on the bike, 2nd 1 for an 11' Ultra Limited, put it back to stock and took it off for the new 13' RG Ultra. Ive been very happy with them and helped a few of my friends with tuning theirs. PV sound like a good unit, but i think the A/T has to be logged then downloaded- so Im not sure if its a true A/T.
You should be fine on either choice, if you plan on doing upgrades along the way.

If the ecm was shot for any reason then definitely thundermax. Otherwise I like both units.
