Default Issue with 1969 FLH

I just got around to working on a 1969 FLH with the original engine, pan bottom shovel top. It needs lots of wor, but right now I want to see if the engine will spin before going forward. It's electric start only no kick and has a big bore kit on it. No battery and not wired up yet. My question is how do I go about trying to turn it by hand to make sure it's not seized up?

I know it might be a stupid question, but I am new to working on Harleys and motorcycles. Been a car guy most of my life. Thanks in advance.

John

Put it in gear while sitting on it roll it. Or put it on a lift, while in gear spin the back tire by hand.

If on a lift, I would take the plugs out. That will allow the compression to escape and make it easier to spin.

If I'm not mistaken that us the last year for the pan bottom, super cool motor. I'm surprised it doesn't have a kicker, that may not be the factory transmission. I may be wrong though

A- post in Shovelhead section for more looks and responses
B- as stated above, take the plugs out, put it in high gear and either roll it on the floor or on a lift spin the rear wheel. You should hear the motor compressing thru the spark plug holes. Pushing air out etc.

We like pics. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah last year they used the pan/shovel combo. Here's a photo
