My local H-D dealer tells me that when they do a tire change they put the rear axle in from the other side so they don't have to remove the exhaust next tire change. Anybody do that or hear about it?
That only works on bikes with an exhaust on one side only, otherwise, yes I've heard of it and I'm sure that plenty of owners do it. I'm about to replace my Sporty's rear tyre and will consider doing just that when I refit the wheel.
Hi, and a big thank you to all the replies. I thought the axle was stepped because of the ABS but looking at the service manual it shows not. I will be changing out the exhaust in the next little while so will be swapping axle around at same time. Curious if will be able to fit a torque wrench on axle nut after exhaust is installed. Thanks again.
I switched mine when I brought it home. 2016 FXDL/ABS. Just changed the rear tire at 10,XXX miles.
At 6200 miles, I fried the rear wheel bearing on the left side. The ***** began cutting thru the race into the wheel. Warranty.
Noticed when I got my bike back from the dealer, that the replaced axle was reinstalled the way the factory does it...
