If really bad they will blister you. The breaker trips from the heat created by the wires - not an electrical overload. When I replaced mine, I used an infrared temp gun before / after repair to compare - what a tremendous difference.

Yep, last I looked there was still a FAR requiring you to carry spare fuses, for each type used and replaceable in flight.
