Fun story, back in San Diego when I was weekly visiting the local HD dealership for Evo parts they would always ask me this same bullshit question. Considering most of what I was buying was Evo parts I always gave them a different Evo engined bike when they'd ask.
What I didn't know was every bike I told them uploaded to my account. By the end of it I had like 30 different Evo based Harleys under my account. My favorite was the 2000 FXR4. That one screwed with the parts counter a lot.
FXR4 ... You could probably consider that the LAST Evo in a Production model
I played that card if I had time to kill. The most fun was with the young kids at the counter who thought they knew their **** when it came to HD. A 2000 FXR?? With an Evo???? Then watch them fumble around for the parts manual for it.

Since I own a couple special construction HDs, I'll give a model year that I know fits the bike I need the part for. They didn't do anything like you say as far as I can tell.. Maybe I looked like I wouldn't be back or too cheap..
There was Big Al at SHSD and he could rattle off many of the part numbers for common parts. Unfortunately, Al seems to have lost his edge. He's been slowing down and I heard he has Alzheimer's. Last Time I saw him was about 6 months ago and he;s slowed down a bunch and has developed a twitch in his hands. Haven't seen him lately. He is a good guy and hope he's still doing well.

If you're talking about the old fella at the Kearny Mesa HD location, he's the only one I trusted with Evo questions. When I went to buy a VOES he was the only one behind the counter that knew what I was looking for. I don't remember his name though. Sorry he's in poor health.
