Pure Ethanol has 2/3 the BTU of pure gasoline. So, 10% ethanol gasoline would have 6.7% lower btu than pure gasoline. Therefore, non ethanol gasoline...could get as much as 6.7% higher MPG than 10% ethanol gas.
But, good luck finding non ethanol gas at prices and availability comparable to 10% ethanol pump gas.
Thank you everyone for your help. TriGreezer I have a few places around here that I use their nonethenal gas. Yes it's more than 10% but not too much more so i use them the most. This was just the first time I saw a station have it marked "Marine"
marine fuel is basically auto fuel. it can/can not have ethanol in it. the biggest diff is the price. this is like buying from murphy or next door chevron (only an example) when the fuel leaves the same refinery. around here, non ethanol will run 60 cents higher on the average. law requires the sticker if the fuel has ethanol so look for that.
as far a fuel mileage, i have run both and unless you have some kind of a fuel wizzard computer, not much diff. the ethanol is an oxygenate and IF kept below the 10% does not adversely effect things. the PLUS for non ethanol in two cycles is corrosion when setup, always best to run the carb dry if carb'd. another thing is that an ethanol system should have metal fuel system as ethanol over time will break down plastic system leading to clogged passages.
now when the ethanol content rises about that, there will be issues as was mentioned along with idle problems. my truck can run E85 and the computer adjusts, my nissan does not and when murphy (closest to my house) fuel get out of whack, i have issues. sometimes, their fuel will get near to 15% for whatever reasons, and i complain, very easy to check content and file with the state regulatory authorities. one other point is a marina usually moves less fuel than an auto station so their fuel can be iffy especially so if the ethanol drops out or absorbs water.
The CD of a MC is about as dirty as it gets.
To gain mileage it will have to be cleaned up
MC are worse than cars!
To gain MPG you will have to add a lot of streamlining stuff and look G. like a wing
