You should just follow with what is in the owners manual and everything should be just fine.

The manual gives exceptions to the standard oil change service interval so your circumstances may not be the same as someone else's.

I do 5K for engine, 10K for primary and trans. I run my bike pretty easy. I seldom get on it real hard. My previous bikes, I would change at half of this. I clean the air cleaner (K&N) every 2500. and plugs, I take them out and swap them front to back/back to front. Mostly to keep the carbon build up off the threads and to see how they are burning. I change them at 10K. But like Andy said, follow your service manual for regular maintenance.

Manual is a good guide. As is the service manual and the parts manual. I always make sure I change the oil and filter before I put it up for the winter. Want all the contaminets out of the oil. I keep a note book and record all my service and maintenance in it. that way I know what was done when. you will get mucho advice here!!! Good luck

Well kmabo that all depends on the mileage you put down. Me about 5 to 8 K miles per year. So primary and transmission oil gets changed once per year regardless of Use the recommended grade in the primary. Go higher viscosity than recommended in the transmission. Engine oil twice usually. Start out your early season (cooler) riding with 20W50. Then as the hotter months come on (90 to 100+ ambient temperatures) switch to 60 weight oil. If you are a year round rider try to find 15W60 such as Amsoil now makes.
