with manual foot, just about anything that will fit the tray. go cheap with lead acid of more $$$ agm
wally world even handles them under everstart. a quality battery look at deka battery site, they make the hd batteries for less cost, nearly 1/2 diff.

The dead battery is a Yuasa YB9-B, so it's a cheap one.
So there isn't a minimum requirements Ah and cca for a 73 shovel 1200cc kickstart?
If that's it I'm going to buy a comparable one.

i used to run a tricked out honda 305 and used a dry cell 12v lantern battery. it had electric foot but did not use it. on your model, the lights are controlled by the key unless altered so it does not take much to fire the ignition. when running, the system runs off the regulator anyway. i had a 74 model fxe which i added manual foot. the batteries nowday's pack more punch in smaller packages and i used an agm smaller in size but more capacity and had no issues even with the electric foot.
if you have the fsm, it will give battery spec's. if you do not, i could look in my library for the info.
the fsm calls for the fx @ 12v 7amp hrs.
