Default Brake maintenance questions / help

I have been rebuilding my brake system and I've run into two issues....hoping to find some help. 2003 Softail Standard

I've started rebuilding my front master cylinder (9/16) and was curious if there is a easy way to get the dust boot at the end of the master cylinder into place. I've tried a 5/8" socket and it pinched the seal between the cylinder body and ruined the seal.

I also bought a drag specialties rear brake line and the brake line switch only threads 1/3rd of the way in. I bought a new switch with the same result. The old switch on a homemade t-junction with brass plumbing also only threaded in 1/3rd of the way. Is this just normal?
