Think of the units inherent in the measurement of torque: Foot and Pounds.
If the value you need is 100 foot pounds of torque on a fastener, this means if your wrench (lever arm) is a foot away from the fastener that you need 100 pounds of downward force applied (assuming your fastener is horizontal to the ground). If you have a 2' long wrench, you only need 50 lbs.
I've done this multiple times on some of the larger torqued items on my harley, like the front pulley or compensator nut. I weigh about 180 lbs, my breaker bar is 20" long at the center of the grip. I put most of my *** onto the wrench and call it good enough for government work.
