Default Air Temp Thermometer

Looked for an appropriate forum to post this query, but none seemed appropriate, so this section will have to do.

Not a big deal, just a few questions.

Just wondering who has a HB mounted thermometer on their bike and does it work?

Is it fairly accuarate or is it affected by the sun or anything else?

If so, which brand/model?

+1 on the oil temperature gauge in lieu of the air temperature gauge.

Yup, that’s what I found as well, for the HD thermometer mounted to the bars.

Was it mounted on a bike with a fairing?

I can see it being affected by direct sun, but was hoping a fairing would prevent other things from affecting it.

Wrote this query after odering a HB mounted thermometer from J&P. Not as pricey as the H-D model.

I guess I closed the door after the horse got out of the barn

Just an update FYI:

Had actually purchased a Marlin's HB mounted Ait Temp gauge before posting this query.

This is what I did with it.

MY Clock and Tem Gauge install

The gauge was not practical as a HB perch mount.

Also, it only came in a bright SS case, so I used some automotive gloss black rattle can black paint and the aheared it to the fairing under my clock with siome 3M automotive double stick tape.

Will have to see how accurate it is and how it affected by the Sun. Should not see much wind in this location.

I've got the Marlin, it's only accurate before a ride so I know what jacket to wear.

The pic I posted was taken this AM about five minutes before I posted it. It was reading about 62 (not a very easy scale face to read) which matched my indoor/outdoor thermometer.

Went to a Hog Meeting and the bike sat in the PL for about three hours and it was showing just a little over 70 when I left which agreed with my weather app on my phone.

Did a long way ride home of a little over 120 miles with a quick stop for lunch and got home and it was reading just below 80 (again hard to read accurately) and my indoor/outdoor thermonetor was reading 77.4. So, it seemed to be fairly accurate on my ride today.

The location on the inside of the fairing is not affected by engine heat and will be generally out of the direct Sun. I suspect if the bike is parked where the sun will be able to shine directly on the thermometer it will not be accutrate, but for me to just know approximately how cold or hot is it when riding, I think it will do OK.

I know the need to know the temp when riding is not of paramont importance but for me it is just a "nice-to-know". I kinda like to know when the air temp drops, or rises, how much it changed. May help me decide when to shed, or put on, the jacket.

I can understand direct sun, but how does wind chill affect a thermometer?
