No, but after the regulator crapped out on a ride. (the stator tested good) I'm thinking at 26 years old I'm on borrowed time.
I want to get parts ready BEFORE I need them and have to shell out all the cash in one shot.
Plus if I'm going to change it I'll do the 3 phase stator and regulator. I could cheap out and just replace it with an OEM.

The oem is fine. The CE is nice if you run any added peripherals tho. The other thing is the coating on the windings hold up better to heat which is the leading cause of oem failures over time.

Replacing rotor/stator/regulator is my standard on every old alternator HD that's new to me. OEM is fine though I've used CE since the early 1980s on all my personal and many customer bikes. I don't wait for them to fail. Since I have several scoots (Evos and Shovels) that take the same range of alternators I even keep a complete spare charging system because they don't get cheaper and will eventually be used. Worst case if I die tomorrow my estate sale has an extra few parts.

It's not pretty when the magnet glue lets go and they shift, but even less pretty when they (rarely but enough to take seriously) let go and tangle with the stator. I tie a rope to old rotors as they're handy around the shop (or yard if you do stuff like roofing).
