grip def damaged, that sucks.

I had degrading grips on a past bike, had a buddy who works in leather make me some leather grip covers. They were cheap, easy to install and looked great.

Something like this. Prevents replacing the grips completely.

Service guy had something on his hands that ate the rubber, you're screwed unless you can have them make good on it.

Great question my friend. Nothing just yet. I was waiting for all of the responses.

At this point, it is this.........

1. Milslurpie suggested the Simple Green or Dawn Dish Soap. <-- I will likely try that 1st. If it degrades more then...

2. Failing #1 above, I will try that "magic juice" called WD40. <-- That sh*t right there does a HUGE list of cool things if u ain't nvr seen the list b4.

3. Failing #1 and #2 above...........then honestly, I am not sure. Maybe wrap something around it. Or the next time it goes in for service, ask them to replace it. Yeah, at my cost. Will tell them what happened if they want to pick up the cost. No worries.

It is cool Sparty, that u asked for a f/u of what I am going to do. For that is often what I wonder about when others get suggestions on issues they have.

Maybe once this all plays out, I can update everyone here.

Hi there R73. My service guy is the chap I have been using for abt 12-13 years. He is nothing, nothing short of PHENOMENAL. I would bet a ba-Zillion dollars it was not him. And you know R73, if it was the chap who towed the bike back up to me, it would be deny, deny, deny.

Funny thing too..........above you said, (and rightly so) "...you're screwed..." above. The "new and improved" me, does not think so anymore. Even if they (HD) messed up. I nvr see myself as being screwed. If (if) they made the error, then that is on them. Not me. But that is another matter.

Buzz , sorry to see this , sucks for sure . hope you can get resolved , but if you can't , I would try some of that black hockey tape , kinda a cloth type material that will last through heat and rain . Just a thought .

Thanks MFR. Fairly GOOD idea. That sounds better than the idea you PM'd me about. When you said to me I should use ONE OF MY Extra Large SUPER tampons, hollow out the inside, slide it over the grip with contact cement and then spray paint the white tampon black. I lub u like a brother MFR but really............sometimes your suggestions are

LOL! Sometimes it pops in my head-what you said about every night and 30 minutes stretching because of your back. My goodness. Hopefully it is so second nature to you you do not even think about it anymore. You just do it. Good luck with that!

You would think in this day and age there would be a solution. A permanent and good solution.

Exactly right!!

I did not really think about that part. Considering I live in South Florida and I do not pretty much do the long rides anymore, I am not so concerned about the heated grips for myself. But you do make an excellent point.
