I am detailing the bike and had a look underneath after removing the coolant pump cover.
Here is where the coolant pump is located in the bottom front of the bike:
Here is a pick underneath the bike, further back behind the coolant pump:
I plan on starting by cleaning it up the best I can just to see what is going on. I can't go nuts with water or degreasers and soaps because it's all wiring. The bike is not losing oil. Not one drop. There are no drops where it's parked. The oil looks old, it's caked with road grime and dust. Immediately above this area is the oil filter. I'm hoping this was some spillage from removing the filter.
Once i get it cleaned up, any thoughts or advice on what to look for or where to look is appreciated. I'm not afraid to admit I'm pretty green when it comes to wrenching on my bike.
It's likely oil trapped in the cover from past oil changes. Some oil seems to always migrate down into that area when the filter is changed. I get it in my oil cooler surround.
I would agree.... oil spillage from changing filter. No matter how careful I am, I always seem to get a little oil dripping there. Even if it's a few drops, it will accumulate down there. We just never seem to get down there and keep that area clean!!

It's my first time checking out this location.
If I am unable to get it perfectly clean, will the chicks still dig me?
Just thought I'd throw this one out there . I have one of these , cheap and works very well . If you have an air compressor , this will make cleaning that area a breeze , I use an antifreeze jug to hold water , I drilled a hole big enough to push the hose through and added a smaller hole so it could breath . After you get it completely clean , unplug any electrical connectors and spray them down with electrical contact cleaner . Your Harbour Freight should carry this .
I use dawn dish soap mixed with warm water to clean oil and gunk , works very well .
